Gijsbert De Nooy has already shown his ability by taking the first stage of Essex tour this season, and wearing the leaders jersey as a result. He has had a lot of money thrown at him, to help him improve as a cyclist, and today we accepted he cannot get any better.
The 25 year old, from Limburg, Holland has 207 hill points and 204 sprint points. Although he isn't the best sprinter, he may well get a chance to show what he can do when the route gets to lumpy for the out right fast men. "He gives us another option, rather than relying on Roels, and having to worry about pacing him back to the front constantly" said Knotts, manager of California Mist.
The decision to send him to the timetrial centre was also taken, with a view to competing in stage races later in his career.
And in other news, the team have seen a lot of riders leave recently with a few amateurs being released after them showing no potential, and experienced Englishmen Zack Ilsley heading home to EST, where he will hope to help them reach, and compete in FonW. We wish them luck.
With this money, we have used it to train De Nooy, and also bring in 2 further Dutchmen, hiller Donny Daniels and leadout man Kees Rijkaard. It will be a while before we see them in our jersey though as there both having some time off to get accustomed to the USA lifestyle, after being in Japan for the last few years.
